About Brett Groehler
I have been photographing weddings since 1980. The cameras, hairstyles and dresses have changed but not the need for professional images. Another thing that will never go out of style is having someone you can trust capture one of the most important days in your life. I fit my style to the couples taste combining a photojournalist eye with traditional portraiture. I usually receive a hug from the bride when I Ieave their wedding for the night and many past clients refer me to other couples they know. My packages range from $900-$2,400 each complete with a CD, proofbook or both. A detaliled list of the packages, prices and example are all the the website here.
I have been fascinated with photography since high school when my father accepted a camera as payment for an outstanding bill. Since then, I went onto technical college where I learned photography was my calling. After earning my two-year degree there I studied at Winona (MN) State University. In 1984 I earned a bachelors degree in Photojournalism. For the next 15 years I worked as a photojournalist for newspapers in Minnesota and Michigan. During those years I learned to shoot under pressure in every imaginable situation including the Super Bowl; two World Series and the U.S. Open Golf Championship. During those 15 years I received dozens of awards including best photographers portfolio among Minnesota news photographers and best in show from Michigan Associated Press.
In 1999 I moved to Duluth where I am the full-time photographer at the University of Minnesota Duluth. At UMD, my duties include creating images for university publications and web site as well as portrait, team and action pictures for all 16 athletic teams. My photos appear on the main UMD web site, programs, posters, billboards and a variety of other publications. Since coming to UMD I have been lucky enough to photograph 9 NCAA Div. I hockey Frozen Fours; 12 NCAA Div. I hockey playoffs; 2 NCAA Div. II football championships and numerous regional playoff games. I have also made four trips to The White House in Washington D.C as well as photographing events at The Kennedy Center and the Finnish Embassy.
My photos have been published worldwide including the Associated Pres, New York Times, Sports Illustrated, USA Today, Women’s World and YM magazines.
When I am not shooting, I enjoy riding motorcycle, watching movies, being outdoors and spending time with my two kids.
